London [ENA] BBC Radio 4 Today has launched its Student Journalism contest and is accepting UK entries for the 2019 award. The tender offers six categories: student journalist, student broadcaster, student visual and photojournalist, student critic, student publication and student program. Candidates must be UK residents and students during the academic year 2018-2019. Application deadline is August 31.

According to the broadcaster the student journalist winner will participate in a traineeship and, after satisfactorily completing the program, will be offered a position in BBC News. Winners in the three remaining individual categories will receive two weeks of work experience. Winners of the team categories will be able to send up to four members of their teams to watch an edition of the Today program.(https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/D8lP6YthZkfHRCMDVdthpl/terms-and-conditions). Terms and Conditions for Category 1 (Today Program Student Journalist of the Year 2019) stipulate that three judges will review submissions and select a list of three shortlisted entries. The shortlist will be announced on or after September 20.

The winner will be announced at an Awards ceremony on 28 October 2019 at the Radio Theatre, Broadcasting House, London. All shortlisted entries will be invited to the Awards ceremony. Terms and Conditions for Category 2 (Student Broadcaster of the Year), Category 3 (Student Visual and Photo Journalist of the Year), Category 4 (Student Critic of the Year), Category 5 (Student Publication of the Year), and Category 6 (Student Program of the Year) include that the categories and criteria to qualify for nomination and on which winners will be selected are listed on each of the nomination pages online.

For each category two judges will review submissions and select a list of three shortlisted entries. The shortlisted entries will be announced on or after 20th of September 2019. Candidates can enter as many categories as they like in the Radio 4 Today Program Student Journalist Awards but can only be shortlisted in one individual category (categories 1 to 4) and one team category (categories 5 and 6). The chair of judges, in consultation with the relevant category judges, will decide in which category you should be shortlisted if your entries make it to the final stages of shortlisting in more than one category.
